Mud cloth is a textile tradition that dates back nearly a millennia, developed from fermented riverbed mud and local plant dyes by the Bambara most of whom now live in modern-day Mali. The symbology corresponds to natural phenomena and serves as protective talisman for those whom they adorn. The tradition traveled from the Bambara to neighboring peoples in Western and North Africa including the Wolof in the territory now known as Senegal, home to the designer of our pants.
100% Cotton; traditionally handspun and dyed with riverbed mud and native plants in Senegal and designed and sewn in Harlem by our partner, Alioune.
Get ready to be seen in AJI AMARILLO. With red and green asymetrical stripes atop the golden base, you'll bring the warmth, glow, and vitality of summer into every season. The chili pepper family - of which Peru's aji amarillo is a part - has become a staple in culinary traditions around the world. Scholars debate whether it was globalized as a result of colonization or through transcontinental trade among indigenous peoples before. Whatever the case (we believe the latter over here), spice it up and leave a trail of wonder (and gratitude) in your wake in this mouth-watering print.
Your brilliance, your sophistication, your strength - make the invisible unmistakably apparent in our orange, green, and blue FLUORESCENT ESSENCE print. Fluorescence is a form of photoluminescence by which a substance channels an energy that is beyond the visible color spectrum into a wavelength the human eye can detect. What are you revealing? Speaking of waves, the multi-colored wave print that flows through the center of our FLUORESCENT ESSENCE pants gives me Windows 99 Media Player vibes - in case you're feeling nostalgic.
All good things come to those who don our HAZELNUT pants. In Celtic mythology (heavily influenced by the African Druids - argue with someone else), the hazelnut was believed to imbue anyone who consumed it with prophetic abilities With wide black and honey-brown vertical stripes filled with traditional symbols that cloak you in the energy of bravery and flow, HAZELNUT is for those with the wisdom to know that being good to yourself is itself an act of bravery that is as much spiritual as it is material.
Find your way in IOLITE, with its vibrant purple and blue checkered print. Iolite is a wayfinding gemstone once used by seafarers to navigate the open ocean when clouds blocked view of the sun and stars. Metaphysically, it is believed to support clarity of vision and our ability to remain attuned to the guidance of our higher self. If you're into that sort of thing. Our IOLITE pants may not be the stone, but let's be clear: you need them on your path.
Find your buried treasure in SEABED. Adorned with an ivory mosaic of traditional symbols and effortlessly luxurious (those three horizontal lines represent wealth), anything is possible in these deep blue joggers. The majority of the ocean floor lays in the abyssal plain, 13,000 to 20,000 feet below the water's surface. Even with minimal oxygen and well beyond the reach of sunlight, life still thrives. The point? In my pants, [queue 112 melody] you can make it anywhere.
The winds of change are blowing in the bag, the joy, and the love. How do we know? It's written all over your pants. Anchor yourself in VIENTO, our stark white pants with contrasting black symbols. Wind is the invisible force we feel when a mass of air moves from a high-pressure area to a low-pressure area. In spite of superficial borders, it reminds us of our connection to each other - redistributing the gases we survive on, carrying new seeds, and refreshing us with its clarity. Much like the wind, our VIENTO pants can change the whole vibe in a matter of seconds.
